In a rare show of bi-partisan support, on September 6, 2017 the U.S. House of Representatives passed the SELF DRIVE Act to make it easier for car makers to test autonomous vehicle technologies.  Before the bill's passage, Congressional leaders "fast tracked" the passage of the bill to put America in the fast lanes towards becoming a smart cars leader. The bill exempts smart cars from current safety requirements.

Technologies will always outpace regulation. The political leadership shown behind this bill acknowledges this fact. It is encouraging to see that politics, in this instances at least, will not throw a stumbling block in the way of a truly revolutionary life saving technology that cuts out human driving errors.

Will be monitoring this space so stay tuned for more.
